Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the weather policy?

Soccer is an all weather sport - we don't cancel games simply because it's raining or snowing.  Always assume GAME ON unless there is a Tornado warning in St. Clair County, you hear from your coach, or until a cancellation is posted through our social outlets.

    We cancel games due to:

    lightning/thunder

    driving rain

    extreme heat

    extreme cold

    tornado warning

    standing water on the field

ground so wet that play will be dangerous to players or damage the fields

other conditions making play dangerous or impractical

Cancellations in advance can only be made by our Regional Commissioner. Game-time cancellations on the field can also be made by the coaches, referee or Field Director based on observed conditions.

    THUNDER and LIGHTNING:

According to the AYSO Severe Weather Play Guidelines, should lightning be seen or thunder heard, referees will stop the game, and players, spectators and coaches are advised to immediately clear the field and seek shelter in a vehicle (under trees, pavilion and concession stand are not considered safe shelter).

Games should not resume until 30 minutes have passed from the most recent recognition of either thunder or lightning. Each instance of thunder or lightning during the period of delay will result in a reset of the 30-minute period.

    Hot Weather

When temperatures and humidity rise above normal levels, the potential for risk rises. Coaches and referees should be aware of these dangers and be prepared to stop or delay games to ensure proper hydration.  Allow for frequent water stoppages in addition to substitution stoppages.

    Cold Weather

Risk of hypothermia, frostbite and injury from numbness are avoidable.  Be prepared to delay or even terminate games to ensure proper protection of the players.

Freezing rain, hail, snow, ,sleet or heavy rain can cause field conditions to deteriorate rapidly.  Players' loss of solid footing can cause severe injury.  Check field conditions before and during games.  Be prepared to stop or delay games if severe weather conditions cause the field to become unsafe for participants.

Cancellation of Games Played on Away Fields (non-161 Fields):

10U and up divisions occasionally play away games at other AYSO area fields.  Our Region has no control over how other fields are run or managed or whether or not games played there are canceled.  IF we are given information about cancellations at away fields, we will do our best to pass it on to the affected coaches.

  • When is Picture Day?

Alternative Photography is our Region's Photography company!

Picture day is usually the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of the season. A make up day is typically scheduled for those who couldn't make the original date.

You will receive an email from Alternative Photography. You will be able to see your child’s image and order directly from your phone, home computer or tablet.

How is this done? We will be able to organize all photos by name and send the image to you via email for ordering purposes.

All team and individual photos will be captured in the same fashion as before with each athlete and coach being photographed individually and placed into a team photo via software. This allows for a much smoother photo day not having to get all coaches and athletes together for a “group” photo.

All payments are completed online, via link.  No payment required at time of picture taken.

    Personal Information

Alternative Photography respects your privacy. Any Personal Information provided by you to facilitate your order will be held as confidential.

We do not sell nor distribute your Personal Information to third parties other than companies used to produce or distribute ordered merchandise such as software, photo labs and shipping companies.

  • I lost/found something at the fields....what do I do?

We have a lost and found bin located between concessions and the shed (next to the flag closet).  PLEASE DO NOT PLACE WET ARTICLES OF CLOTHING OR FULL DRINK BOTTLES IN THE LOST AND FOUND BIN.

If the item is of a significant value (i.e. car keys, phone, wallet, jewelry) please find a board member or text the RC at 810-662-9640 to assist you in securing the item until the owner can be identified.

  • What are the field rules?

    Field Rules:

In order to accommodate your needs, AYSO philosophy, the Township’s Park regulations and our neighbors needs and concerns, the following rules need to be enforced by all who use Lightfoot Fields:

    1. Observe all posted speed limits. The maximum speed on Beach Road, north of Atkins is 25 mph. In the park, the maximum speed limit is 5 mph. This is for the children’s safety and your own. Please drive carefully.

    2. No alcohol, tobacco products, e-cigarettes, vapor cigarettes or illegal substances are allowed. Anyone found bringing these items onto our field will be asked to leave immediately.

    3. No glass bottles/containers are permitted.

    4. No motor vehicles beyond the parking lot, except for emergencies, field maintenance or other AYSO business purposes.

    5. Bicycles, skateboards or scooters are not permitted beyond the parking lot. Lock unattended bikes near the field entry.

    6. Do not hang or play on the soccer goals. Goals can tip over causing serious injury and even death.

    7. For sanitary as well as safety reasons, NO PETS are allowed at the fields, including those held in your arms. Service animals are welcome.

    8. Please dispose of trash and refuse responsibly in the cans provided. Please place large items in the dumpster.

  • When does registration open/close and when does the season start/end?

AYSO Region 161 runs a split season offering families options for participation in our program.

The new season begins in the FALL and runs through SPRING and runs from September through June. Example: MY26 = Fall2026 and Spring2027

Registration for Fall usually opens in May and closes in late July.  Registration for Spring usually opens in October and closes in late January.

We offer families the option to register for BOTH parts of the season with a discount during the Fall registration time frame.

Alternately, families can register for one part alone (i.e. fall or spring).  Many players enjoy other sports and cannot commit to full Fall/Spring soccer seasons, so registering for one allows players to do so without the extra cost.

  • Can my player be on the same team or with the same coach as last year?

Because our season runs from September through June (i.e. Fall through Spring), players remain on the same team throughout that year.

All teams are newly formed each Fall.  To uphold our philosophy of Balanced Teams, we utilize a combination of random assignment, school district, player evaluations, years of experience, and specific requests to build teams.  Specific requests include, but  are not limited to: teammate requests (must match between players at registration), coach/assistant coach/referee partnerships, siblings.

Requests for multiple players to be teammates (i.e. a trio or quad set of teammate requests) will not be guaranteed.

Requests to be placed with a specific coach is not guaranteed.  The only way to ensure a certain coach is to work out a partnership with them in which you volunteer as assistant coach or referee.
